HB 2490    RELATING TO THE HAWAII TEACHERS STANDARDS BOARD   EDU
HD1        Allows  the  Hawaii  Teachers  Standards  Board  to
           extend teaching credentials  for teachers for 2000-
           2001 and 2001-2002  school  years on a case-by-case
           basis  for  teachers  who   are  unable  to  become
           licensed   due    to   extenuating   circumstances.

HB 2062    RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION                 EDU, WAM
HD2        Allows UH to carry over  funds from one year to the
           next. (Morihara/Takai/Thielen/Ahu Isa)

HB 2066    RELATING TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII         EDU, WAM
HD1        FACILITIES USE REVOLVING FUND
           Allows real property revenues  of the University of
           Hawaii to be deposited  into a university revolving
           fund. (Morihara/Takai/Ahu Isa/Ito)

HB 2262    ESTABLISHING A COMMISSION TO CELEBRATE THE   EDU, WAM
HD2        ONE-HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ARRIVAL OF
           THE KOREANS TO HAWAII
           Establishes a  commission  to  celebrate  the 100th
           anniversary  of  the  arrival  of  the  Koreans  to
           Hawaii.  (Luke/Santiago/Kaho`ohalahala/et al)

HB 1876    PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE X, SECTION 2, OF THE
           HAWAII CONSTITUTION, TO CHANGE THE COMPOSITION OF THE
           BOARD OF EDUCATION                           EDU, JDC
           Proposes an amendment to  article  X, section 2, of
           the constitution of the  State of Hawaii to include
           a  representative  from  the  Commander  in  Chief,
           United  States  Pacific  Command   to  serve  as  a
           nonvoting member on  the  board of education. (Say,
           etc.)

HB 149 HD2  PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE X, SECTION 2, OF THE
           HAWAII CONSTITUTION, TO CHANGE THE BOARD OF EDUCATION
           FROM AN ELECTED BOARD TO AN APPOINTED BOARD   EDU, JDC
           Proposes a constitutional  amendment  to change the
           Board of  Education  from  an  elected  board to an
           appointed board. (Say, etc.)

 


 
HB 2566    RELATING TO THE HAWAII STATE PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM
HD2                                                        EDU, WAM
           Relating to literacy programs. (Say (BR))

HD 1873    RELATING TO EDUCATION                        EDU, WAM
HD2        Exempts federal and  trust  funds of the department
           of education  from  the  requirements  of the state
           budgetary allotment system  under sections 37-31 to
           37-39, Hawaii Revised Statutes. (Say, etc.)

HB 2388    RELATING TO EDUCATION                        EDU, JDC
HD2        Extends   the   Department   of   Education's  zero
           tolerance policy to  include  the possession, sale,
           or use of dangerous  weapons or switchblade knives,
           and the  possession,  sale,  consumption  or use of
           intoxicating liquor or illicit drugs during school.

HB 2087    RELATING TO JUVENILES                        EDU, JDC
HD2        Allows limited accessibility to juvenile records to
           school  officials  and   persons  involved  in  the
           treatment and supervision of minors in the areas of
           child  abuse   and   law   enforcement.    Requires
           notification from  a  court  to  appropriate school
           officials when  a  minor  has  been  adjudicated of
           committing a felony or misdemeanor. (Catalani)

HB 2285    MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE HAWAIIAN STUDIES
HD1        PROGRAM                                      EDU, WAM
           Appropriates funds for the Hawaiian studies program
           to fund one resource teacher for each public school
           district and  a  DOE  supervisor  for  the resource
           teachers. (Kawakami, etc.)

HD 2096    MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR EDUCATION        EDU, WAM
HD1        Appropriates  funds  for  260  full-time equivalent
           permanent teacher  positions  in  the department of
           education. (Ito, etc.)

HB 3002    RELATING TO PLAYGROUNDS IN SCHOOLS           EDU, WAM
HD2        Authorizes issuance of  general obligation bonds to
           finance   renovation    of   condemned   playground
           equipment. (Ito, etc.)

HB 2391    MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR PARENT-COMMUNITY
HD1        NETWORKING CENTERS                           EDU, WAM
           Appropriates funds  for parent-community networking
           centers throughout the State. (Kawakami, etc.)
